Patient Safety

Safety First

  1. It is necessary to perform a complete medical examination prior to the surgery, in which it is essential to document all existing illnesses and previous surgeries. You must also inform us about any complications associated to previous procedures, allergies and/or reactions to previous anesthetics, as well as of the regular use of medications, hormones, vitamins, herbs (teas), arnica, Ginkgo Biloba, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. All food supplements, simple as they may seem, must be reported to the surgeon.
  2. Any surgical procedure involves risk, and whether any complications occur, you should be in a place that enables the support of a medical team and has an adequate physical plant.
  3. On the day of the surgery, you must not forget to fast. Remember that getting that far will have required preparation and planning. Measures requested by your surgeon such as stopping smoking, losing weight, and interrupting the use of medications are very important. Following pre and postoperative recommendations correctly is critical to the success of your surgery.

Choosing the Right Time

Good patient, good surgeon, good surgery. A well-informed, realistic, and positive patient always contributes to good results. It is very important to perform surgery in a good physical and emotional time of one´s life. In most cases, plastic surgery is not peformed as an emergency, so if your physical or mental health is not suitable, it is best to postpone it for a future occasion.

Risk-Benefit

Your surgeon is required to explain in detail the risks associated with each procedure. For this reason, the surgeon must provide you with an informed consent in which everything related to surgery is clarified. You must have realistic expectations and trust the surgeon you have chosen.

Certified Facilities

It is imperative that the surgery take place in a safe and secure environment. A certified facility is one that meets all national parameters regarding the equipment and security of the operating room, as well as having the technical resources and physical structure to deal with an eventual surgical or postoperative complication.

Choosing Your Surgeon

Trust and empathy are essential to consolidate a healthy doctor-patient relationship. Choosing a licensed surgeon is the first safety measure. You may access this list at the Sociedad Dominicana de Cirugía Plástica, Reconstructiva y Estética (SODOCIPRE) website.

Ask Your Surgeon, Clarify Doubts

For a good surgical outcome, it is important to have good communication with your surgeon and for your goals to be realistic. Ask all the questions you consider necessary. Your doctor will be available and willing to clarify any doubts.
